About me...

The author of the paintings signed by FRBA is František Balon. Painting has been his passion since childhood. He admires prehistoric cave paintings, paintings on the walls of chambers in the Egyptian pyramids, then the work of such masters as: Pieter Bruegel, Hieronymus Bosch, Amadeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, also Henri Rousseau, Tadeusz Makowiecki (Polish painter living in France). Among the Czech painters, it is especially Jan Zrzavý and Josef Čapek.

He tried all art techniques, and for some time he was also interested in carving. From 1974 to 1985 he worked professionally in photography and utility graphics. In the 1990s, he became independent as a graphic designer. He has numerous illustrations in magazines and books, posters, book covers and his own book publications.

From 2013 he traveled abroad. He spent a year in the Canary Islands, two years in the south of Sweden. Abroad, he returned intensively to painting. Since 2016, he has definitely settled back in the Czech Republic. He lives in Znojmo.

Friends in Sweden called him a "painter of ideas." Perhaps he could be classified as a symbolist. His paintings are intentionally free from details and precision, one might say that on the verge of naivety. Associations of ancient cave paintings are also evident on them. The creation of his canvases is a long process from thought through numerous sketches (of which extensive text notes are a part), then through color studies. He returns to many topics repeatedly.

He traveled a lot (he visited more than twenty countries around the world) and always brought new inspirations from his trips. He continues to devote himself sporadically to utility graphics, mainly books. He basically paints the paintings only for himself, for his own fulfillment. Exhibition and other ways of presentation are not his priority.

After returning to the Czech Republic, he exhibited in Tachov, in the premises of the local Tea house Sedmdesátka (2018). In 2021, after a long persuasion of friends, he took part in the OPEN ART FEST exhibition in Prague. This presentation opened up interest for work from numerous galleries and private collectors. From December 2021 to January 2022, he had an extensive exhibition of 80 paintings in the Grand Café Gallery in Znojmo. Even there (despite ongoing pandemic measures) was the interest in his paintings unexpectedly great. Visitors came from Brno, Prague, Opava, Ostrava, as well as from Austria and Poland. In February 2022, he exhibited, at the invitation of Polish artists, as a guest, in the border town of Cieszyn in Poland. Next in July the same year he presented his paintings together with photos in the Gallery KUPE in Opava. In January 2023 he had his exhibition in Gallery RADOST in the town Havířov.

His paintings can be found except Czech Republic and Slovakia in private homes and public spaces in Poland, Hungary, Germany, Sweden and the Island of Tenerife.

Passing people without making any remarks we remember just silhouettes without faces. Sometime we can see by own eye corner living hearts and burned hearts. In a mixed crowd surrounding us the crackpots vanished. Demons are substituted by figures from stories. Under us we often have depths of fear and so are we waiting for a new day. There are just few who can put into relations the invisible over us. All the time, less and less of us were born and more and more die. The last picture of an angel we hung up behind a concrete wall.
